Health Promotion School Guide - For local translation and cultural adaption

The Health Promoting School Guide is designed as a practical tool for schools wishing to become or strengthen their role as a Health Promoting School (HPS). It is inspired by the SHE School Manual, developed by the Schools for Health in Europe Network Foundation (SHE), aiming to make the guide as practical oriented and accessible for schools as possible.

In the SHE4AHA project we have worked together with 15 pilot schools to develop the guide, thus it builds on their concrete experiences and feedback, and the project has been able to demonstrate how the Health Promoting School approach can contribute to healthier and more active ageing across European societies by prioritising early interventions.
We invite you to use the guide, as all development towards becoming a health promoting school is about first gathering knowledge and then taking action.
Whether you are new to the Health Promoting School approach or already working with health promotion, the guide will support you in developing your school’s policies and practices to further enhance your position as a Health Promoting School.
The guide has been translated to the 5 project languages; Danish, French, Icelandic, Portuguese and Slovenian. Click on the flag on the frontpage, you will find the translated version.

Checklists

The Icelandic partner in the SHE4AHA project; The Directorate of Health, has developed the Health Promoting School Checklist, as part of their national HP School network activities and initiatives. The development of the checklists is inspired by the manual and is therefore in line with the SHE4AHA project and the guide and training material the project has developed. We have used the project to translate the lists into the other 5 project languages, and thus by clicking on the flag on the front page, you can find the checklists in your local language.
The lists can be used as a dialogue and decision tool for schools to decide and communicate explicitly where they want to put their priorities as a health promoting school. The lists can also help schools to monitor their innovation process and keep focus on the areas that they want to improve in their school, as the development process evolves.
