Practice Stories

How have others done it?

An important lesson learnt in the SHE4AHA project is that it doesn’t always make sense for schools to start the journey towards becoming a health promoting school as a large strategic project, as suggested in the guide. Often it makes more sense for them to start with concrete pilot projects that build on a specific challenge the school is working on.

At the same time, we have found that by introducing the school to the Health Promoting School guide and all the terms and concepts associated with the health promoting school approach, schools are able to build their capacity beyond the specific pilot projects, which can help kick-start a strategic process.
All pilot schools have actively participated in the creation of this good practice catalogue, which is based on their hands-on learning experiences about the health promoting school approach and their implementation of concrete health promoting activities.
The pilot projects can generally be divided into three thematic categories;

1) Nutrition and physical activity;
2) Mindfulness, brain breaks, and mental wellbeing; and
3) Togetherness and cooperation

We invite you to be inspired by what other schools have done to get started……
